Chiropractic Adjustment
Chiropractic adjustments (AKA manipulations) are drug-free, non-surgical treatment that improves the function and mobility of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. Adjustments reduce pain, improves range of motion, reduce/eliminate headaches, and improves the function of the nervous system. By improving the function of the nervous system it helps to promote immune efficiency and elevates the productivity of the body systems.
Manual joint manipulation techniques used in this office include Gonstead and diversified. These are high velocity low amplitude adjustments that can be used for most patient to help increase range of motion and reduce pain.
Instrument assisted manipulations are also done in this office and include Activator, SOT blocking, and light force pressure release. These are suitable for elderly patients, infants, and those with conditions such as osteoporosis, ligament laxity conditions, and other conditions that could be injured by high velocity rotary adjustments. Patients, that find popping sounds to be disconcerting or are uncomfortable with manual adjustments, do well with instrument adjustment and find them to be effective and less stressful.
Craniosacal Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on treatment that uses light touch to release tension in the head, neck, and back.
How It Works
During the session, the practitioner will use about five grams of pressure to release tension and promote good movement in the body and head. Practitioners find restrictions in the head and body by feeling for the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid moving around the brain and spinal cord. Practitioners gently move or hold the skull, spine, and sacrum (tailbone) to ease restrictions in the central nervous system.
What to Expect
You remain fully clothed, comfortable garments suggested. You lie on a table while the practitioner lightly places their hands on your feet, leg abdomen, chest, head, and/or base of the spine. You might feel deeply relaxed, fall asleep, or notice mild tingling, warmth, or coolness. A typical appointment lasts between 50 and 60 minutes with shorter focused session available.
Benefits
People use CST to help manage stress, chronic pain, migraines, and neck tension. Many patients report feeling deeply relaxed and sleeping better after treatment.
Myofascial Release Treatment
Myofascial release uses tools to eases muscle tightness, reduces chronic pain, and improves your range of motion by breaking up restrictions within the connective tissue under the skin and around the muscles.
How it works
Beveled tools are used to scrap the tissue and break up the adhesion in the fascia thus releasing tension on the muscle and skin. The fascia is the connective tissue that connects your skin to your muscle, your muscle together, and supports your nerves and blood vessels. When adhesions form in this tissue it prevents good movement of the surrounding tissues and can increase pain and tension.
What to expect
The area of the body that is being worked on is exposed and a emollient is put on the skin to prevent damage to the skin. The tool is then scrapped across the area in several directions to release the adhesions. This is a painful treatment so please communicate with your practitioner about your tolerance for the treatment so that treatment time and depth can be modified. Petechiae (tiny, flat, pinpoint red, purple, or brown spots on the skin caused by minor bleeding from broken capillaries) and bruising is common and expected during the treatment. Soreness for 24 to 48 hours following the treatment sometime happens but not always present.
Benefits
Pain Relief, Better Flexibility, Improved Circulation, Posture Improvement, Stress Reduction
Electrical Therapy
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) uses mild electrical impulses to make muscles contract, which helps improve strength, reduce pain, and speed up healing.
How it works It used a low-level electrical current to relax the muscle tissue and dull the nerve pain by over riding the nerves and causing slight pulse contractions of the muscles in the area to breakup spasms and reduce tension.
What to expect Adhesive pads will be put on your skin around the area of pain or along a nerve line. The unit will be turned on slowly until you feel a buzzing and vibration in your skin under the pads. This will be turned up to you comfort level and left on for 10 to 30 minutes.
Benefits Temporary pain Relief, Prevents Muscle Loss, Improves Blood Flow, Muscle Re-Education, Relieves Spasms
